We would probably all agree that feeling good about what you’re wearing positively correlates with feeling good about yourself. In the case of the non-profit Dress for Success, that correlation is why they supply suits, interview wear, and self esteem building workshops for women.
Imagine applying for jobs for months. Your unemployed, and you only have enough money for rent and food. You finally get a call back for a position you always wanted. In the midst of your joy and preparation you realize… I have nothing to wear!
In an interview situation your presentation speaks volumes. Sometimes, your appearance is worth more to an interviewer than your actual experience and capabilities. Thankfully, Dress for Success, a national non-profit organization helps all women feel prepared for their first step towards self-sufficiency.
So how can you help?
You can donate your gently used suits, or money, to your local Dress for Success organization. You could also become a volunteer. There are various ways you can volunteer at the organization. You could be a personal shopper and find clothes for the women. You could also be an expert speaker, and give career development advice to women. If you contact your local DFS organization, they will find a way for you to help them.
As much as you love clothes, fashion, and style, you could be a valuable resource to Dress for Success. A little time, makes a lot of difference.
