“My heroes had the heart to put their life out on the limb”
-Gnarls Barkley (Crazy)
I think we admire people not for what they do, but more so for the fact that they actually did it. As we begin to move toward the person we want to become life… we realize just how many obstacles there will be. All the prerequisites, amount of times you’ll hear ‘no’, things life will throw at you, and all of your personal ‘disadvantages’ make who you want to become seem so far off. So how do you put your life on the limb and become bold enough to be yourself?
I guess it’s only right to define ‘yourself’. In this case, the ‘yourself’ I’m referring to is the person you always dream of becoming. The person you are inside of the world you always dreamed of living in. With that said, its obvious that there will have to be some journey from the person you are now, to the person you will be in the future.
Take Only The First Step
When we view things as being ‘so far out’, we often think of all the steps that will be needed to take. In order to move forward, its important to just think of the very next step. What is the very next thing you should do to get to your next step toward becoming yourself? Do that.
Eliminate Everyone Else’s Ideas
So many other people give you their opinions on who you are and what you should do. Unfortunately, most of those things are far off from how you see yourself or your life. Those other voices make you question your every move. You have to break the mold they created for your life, and live your own life for yourself. Yes, it may seem lonely at times and you may feel like you strayed from the established path, but the only way you can find yourself is if you stray away from the pack and do your own thing.
When people truely believe something they go at it with full force. It is as if their belief consumes their every move. That’s how you have to believe in yourself. You have to be so consumed in the person that you want to become, that you allow your future self to consume your current being. That is the point of it…isn’t it?
Put Yourself Out There
Put yourself on a limb. Be open to hearing ‘no’. Be open to making mistakes. And be open to knowing that one day it will actually happen. It all comes through faith. And with faith comes action.
In 2013… Just do it already.
