No year is ever the same. Each year since graduating high school has been dramatically different. Maybe at times its too different. Everyone experiences open doors, closed doors, and a few slammed in their face. But as I sit and observe the lives of those around me, I feel my hallway must have a little more doors. Or maybe it’s the speed in which I’m traveling down the corridor. I know I’m not the only one pondering this – Why does my life change so much and so fast?
It’s Not Change It’s Transformation
I had to bite my tongue one day when I told a mentor “I’m always changing”, referring to the fact that my life never stays the same. He quickly stopped me and told me that changing every year isn’t a good thing, but transforming is. I understood his point. I’m transforming. I had to change the way I looked at things. Most importantly, the way that I looked at myself. I was forced to anchor myself in the knowledge of who I was in order to see how the changing situations positively impacted my life, my personality, and my perspective. I was no longer changing, I began to transform.
Transformation Is A Good Thing
Transformation is a good thing-especially when you know who you are transforming to become. In order to be open for transformation, you have to be willing to confront your negatives. I didn’t begin to drastically transform until I graduated high school because I was never aware of myself until that point. Prior, I was surrounded by people who knew me and accepted me just as I was with no problem. When I ventured into new experiences and new cities, I had to meet all new people. As I saw how different they were from the people I knew, I noticed just how different I was from them. As much as I marveled in my positive qualities, I also became increasingly aware of my negative ones. I made a list of all the things I needed to work on. And trust me, the list is far from finished. But as I recognized my negative qualities, I was able to see how my changing situations impacted positive transformation in my life. Transformation is a great thing.
Why Isn’t Everyone Changing?
Some people don’t complete the test so that they can have a testimony. To be honest, all of us have avoided something in our lives that could have propelled growth. Whether it be working out, studying, or working just a bit harder, we all stood in our own way or transformation. To be open to transformation you have to be open to discipline. The more disciplined you can be, the quicker you can transform into the person you want to become.
Let Your Ambitions Drive You
What drives you? Is it success, fun, freedom or fear? Knowing what drives you is important. To be a bit extreme…If you are driven by drugs, your life will be drastically different than someone driven by success. You can have a lot of change in your life, but it will not always be a good thing if you aren’t anchored. Anchor your ambition into something that is positive so that your transformation can be beneficial and positive.
