Are you confident, bold, and self-assured? Well, the job search can be a struggle for people like you. I know you’ve been told your entire career that being bold and confident is the way to go. But, with the change in the economy, your bold personality can be detrimental to your job hunt. Employers may be looking for an ‘in the box’, less-confident person. So what is that all about, and what is a go-getting girl to do?

Heightened Fears

As you know, people in the workplace have heightened fears. Job instability and insecurity means that new hires have to not to ‘rock the boat’. Mangers are people too. Therefore, in this economy, they are most likely nervous about their own position. They aren’t interested in hiring a person who seems to have the energy and drive to take their position.

The Desire To Fit Inside The Box

Although you are capable and qualified to do the job, do your skills and ambitions spill outside the box? That could be an instant red flag to prospective employers. Instead of seeing your skill set and ambitions as an opportunity for growth, some prospective employers see it as a sign that you will quickly lose interest. Most go-getters will work outside of their job description, but that takes a skilled manager to understand. Instead, you may find your resume  tossed into the trash. Although your skills are on level with the position, your vision floats above the job description. Its up to management to understand that it’s actually to their advantage. Just be aware that your confidence, ambitions, and over-achieving skill sets can cause you the job.

Why You Should Wait

Wait for the right gig. Never dumb yourself down for any potential opportunity or you will find yourself miserable in the end. Be forthcoming about your ambitions, passions, and skills. The RIGHT employer will respond positively to you, and see that your ‘outside-the-box’ ambitions can actually be utilized for their company. And THAT’S the position you need.

So, are the less-confident, more ‘in the box’ people actually superior in the job hunting arena. Only for positions that you never wanted to be boxed into. The point is- stay true to yourself, be honest about your ambitions, and the right people will see you. Yes, it will be more of a challenge while searching, but when you find a job, it will be just right.
