Remember the kid in high school that had no “group” but a ton of friends? It was sort of like that person had such an amazing energy that attracted everyone to them, but they weren’t tied to any group of people. There is a power that comes with standing apart from the crowd.

Those Who Stand Apart Set The Trends

The same is the case in fashion. Those who get noticed don’t follow trends. Often they are the ones who set their trends. Kelis, Gaga, and Solange are trendsetters in their own right, but it does come with the price of occasional fashion ‘fails’. But if they never took the risks, would we have ever noticed them? Probably not. The benefit of standing alone is that you are set apart from the crowd. And by standing apart you will be noticed.

If You Are Ahead Of The Pack, You Won’t Be Distracted By The Pack

Let’s look at the Olympic track and field races. The girls who were in front never looked back. But everyone behind them was looking in their direction. By positioning yourself ahead of the pack you set the tone. By focusing on yourself you aren’t distracted by everything else….most importantly, you can more easily improve what is inside of you. We aren’t saying be loners by any means. We are saying be comfortable in your own skin and comfortably standing apart from the group in your uniqueness.

The Reward 

As with anything, there is a definite reward to developing your craft. Developing who you are means you will most likely stand out. There are many things you can do once you grab the attention of those around you. You are able to bring attention to causes that are important to you, develop ideas, and impact others. As you continue on your path, feel confident in getting off the beaten track and charter your own destiny.
