When I saw last week’s theme, ‘Name that Nail Polish’, I said to myself (in my Arnold from Different Strokes voice), “What You Talkin ‘bout MosaMuse? Surely you aren’t suggesting a whole week of nail polish topics”. But you were. And you found a delightful way to treat, shape and polish our minds.
With If Clothes Were Named like Nail Polish; Colors and Clothes that Collide; Creating Your Boudoir; Puurrfect in Pink; Catching Scents; Chic Celeb Fingertips; She Nails It; At-Home Healthy Nails; MAC Cosmetics and Maxis, Minis & Mullets (mullets…who knew!)—you nailed the theme. And then you modeled the theme with Bonnie Chen; Christy Turlington; Lana Del Rey; Rachel Roy; Karl Lagerfeld & CoCo Chanel; and YSL. Added a bit of fun with music video flashbacks of Aaliyah, Beyonce, Britney, Gwen Stefani and TLC. Enlightened us with Obamacare – I’m Just a Bill; as well as How to Write a Business Plan Part 2; Perfect Timing and Are you Overlooking People Closest to You. And then you polished it off with tips on how to relax, from Take a Break to Just Play; Take Time to Smell the Flowers; Taking a Break with $100; and Ballet Slippers (how adorable!).
Holding On To Your True Values reminded me of a conversation with my boss. We were in Atlanta’s airport talking about where we’d like to travel. I’m not big on foreign countries. She was. I said I preferred the Islands and the U.S. to London, Paris, China and Prague. She was appalled. “Don’t let people hear you saying that. Everyone wants to travel abroad.”
She was wrong. Everyone doesn’t want to travel abroad. For me, they’re interesting places to read about and see on TV, but I’m cool with not going. My best vacations are at home in the peace and quiet, away from work, sitting on the porch with my feet up reading a good book, or two, or three.
Yes. If you’re not careful, you can lose a piece of your soul trying to get ahead, (think the actors couch). However you can also lose when you let others perceptions of what you should be doing, take you places you don’t want to be.
It’s okay to hear folks out, but in the end, know yourself, be true to yourself, and do what makes you happy. (Hint: If it’s not helping you become a better person, don’t buy into it.)
I started last week with Plain Jane nails and ended up colorfully manicured. If anyone missed last week, they need to hit the “previous” button and get caught up. Can’t wait to see what MosaMuse is talking ‘bout this week!
